Faculty Handbook
Print editions of the Faculty Handbook have been produced in 1997, 2000, and 2002. Since the publication of the 2002 edition, many of the policies and other information included in it have been placed on the University web site or have become outdated or inaccurate. For this reason, we have deleted from the online version of the 2002 Faculty Handbook information that is inaccurate or is duplicated elsewhere. The following is a list of each topic included in the 2002 Handbook, along with information about where each topic is currently and accurately addressed. (Note: In some cases-for example, the Mission Statement-the information is found in multiple locations; only one is listed here, though.)
Please note the following information that appeared in the Preface to the 2002 Faculty Handbook and describes its function: "We hope this handbook will serve as a useful reference guide throughout your employment at Baylor. This faculty handbook is not intended to be either an official policy and procedures manual or a contractual document. The handbook is thus not a part of any contractual commitment (expressed or implied), nor is it intended to create any legally enforceable obligations. The terms and conditions of faculty members' contracts are established by the letter of appointment signed by the President of Baylor University and by the applicable provisions of the Baylor University Personnel Policy Manual, available on Baylor's website and, by request, in hard copy.
"This faculty handbook supersedes and replaces all previous faculty handbooks with a prior date of publication. The handbook does not replace or modify in any way the provisions of the Baylor University Personnel Policy Manual."
The portions of the 2002 Faculty Handbook that remain here are available for download in Portable Document Format. These files may be viewed in your browser or printed.
Portable Document Format (PDF) files are a common file type on the Internet, especially for the transfer of large documents with text and graphics.
Free software to view PDF files, called Acrobat Reader, is available from Adobe for Windows, Macintosh, and various versions of Unix.
