Veterans Day Message

Nov. 11, 2011

Today, from offices at Pat Neff Hall, we have watched our ROTC students faithfully standing guard at the flag pole on Founders Mall. This modest but commanding act of respect reminds us how each day, in locations all over the world, and in similarly humble but powerful ways, men and women in the armed services stand guard over our freedoms.

We are also reminded today of all those who have risked their lives, some, even making the ultimate sacrifice, to safeguard our nation and to protect life and liberty at home and abroad. Indeed, many such heroes live among us daily. They are our students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

On this Veterans Day, we honor the men and women of the armed services, those serving our nation now and those who have served at other critical times in our history. We remain a free nation today because of the selfless servants who choose to wear the uniform of the United States armed services.

Gratefully,

Ken Starr
