Article in Roll Call, a Washington, D.C.-based newspaper that reports news of legislative and political maneuverings on Capitol Hill, on Baylor’s announcement that former Virginia Congressman Frank Wolf has been appointed the first Jerry and Susie Wilson Chair in Religious Freedom. During his congressional career, Wolf was an outspoken defender of religious minorities, particularly Christians in Iraq and Egypt. Quoted in the article is Baylor President and Chancellor Ken Starr, who stated Wolf’s appointment “represents a remarkable opportunity to advance the study and protection of the essential right of religious freedom and to vigorously address the profound issues of religious liberty and Christianity’s contributions to human flourishing throughout the world.” (Lori Fogleman, assistant vice president for Baylor Media Communications, placed this story. Guest column by Baylor President and Chancellor Ken Starr about the hundreds of Baylor students studying abroad this summer or serving on University-sponsored mission trips that help bring hope and encouragement to some of the world’s poorest people. Specifically, Judge Starr writes about a week-long inspirational journey of a group of 30 Baylor alumni and friends led by Todd Still, Ph.D., The William H. Hinson Professor of Christian Scriptures at Truett Seminary. The journey took the Baylor delegation to magnificent Grecian ports of call in retracing the Apostle Paul’s second missionary journey.
