QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

To goal of QI research is to facilitate measured improvements in quality of care that directly benefit patients. This team coordinates efforts across sites in the system to leverage efforts for stronger impacts on health. Patient engagement and safety is studied to develop, test, and disseminate interventions to improve health by fostering consumer involvement in healthcare services. This type of research approaches patient engagement and safety from a team perspective, with patients, families, clinicians, and other community and healthcare providers as equal partners with shared responsibilities for contributing to health outcomes. Activities span a continuum from evidence generation to implementation of practices and policies. Quality research initiatives include reducing readmissions, improving the transition from the hospital back to home, reducing unnecessary radiation from procedures, improving patient flow through the emergency room, excellence in chest pain care, to name a few.
