Current undergraduate physics students will present their summer research experiences and findings to the public on Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Undergraduate Research Symposium being hosted by the department of physics at Baylor University.
Approximately 14 students will present at the free symposium, which will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in room D110 of the Baylor Sciences Building. Refreshments will be offered beginning at 2:45 p.m. in room D310 of the Baylor Sciences Building.
Dr. Jeffrey Olafsen, associate professor of physics and the event's organizer, said each student will be given 10 minutes to speak and answer questions concerning their research experiences at Baylor, national laboratories or Research Experiences for Undergraduate programs at other academic institutions.
Presenters will cover topics such as physics, astronomy and astrophysics, which encompasses research in high energy physics, plasma physics and nonlinear dynamics.
Olafsen said those who attend will be more encouraged to take part in an undergraduate research experience after hearing from others. It also allows those presenting to practice communication skills and learn of their fellow presenters' research.
This is the third fall semester undergraduate symposium hosted by the physics department. Rising seniors will complete their research this semester and will present their final results later in the year.
