Baylor Welcomes Class of 2015 at Line Camp During July

Singing That Good Old Baylor Line is just one of many Baylor University traditions incoming freshman and transfer students will learn this month at Line Camp.
During six overlapping on-campus sessions students will live on campus for five days and four nights and participate in a high-energy camp designed to immerse students in Baylor traditions and culture. In addition to the on-campus sections, two Outdoor Adventure sessions in Colorado are offered to students. Last year 40 percent of the freshman class attended Line Camp and even more are expected this year, according to Baylor Line Camp's website.
Upon arriving students will meet their Line Camp instructors and get to know their group members.
Selection for Line Camp leaders is a long process. Students wishing to be leaders must apply in the fall, interview and, if accepted, complete a leadership course in the spring. Many Line Camp leaders are Community Leaders (CL) in the dorms, Welcome Week leaders or are involved in other leadership roles on campus.
"I'm quite ecstatic to meet my group!" said Victor Gonzalez, Honors Residential College junior, CL and Honors session Line Camp leader. "The placement is random, but I'm excited because, as a CL, I will be able to have some residents that live in the HRC. It's a chance to meet some of the kids that will be living in my residence hall and this is just a great chance to get to start the bonding process."
From ice-breakers, to serving the community, to participating in a mini All-University SING competition and a trip to Independence, Texas, to learn where it all began, students will learn what it means to be a Baylor Bear and become a member of the Baylor Line.
Friends made at Line Camp will be among the first made at college and can last over the years. Special interest sessions like the Honors section, the Engineering and Computer Science section, and the Outdoor Adventure camps connect students with similar interests and studies.
"I remember that I loved having some friends that were older and how I depended on them for all my questions regarding Baylor," Gonzalez said. "I hope that I can get to know these guys and help them out in whatever way possible whenever they first get here and throughout their time at Baylor University"
Registration for on-campus Line Camp is $75. All spots are full for sessions 1-6 and Honors as well as the Engineering and Computer Science spots for males.
