Baylor Center for Ministry Effectiveness and Educational Leadership Will Present Symposium to Answer Question: "Are Christians Called to Change the World?"

"Are Christians Called to Change the World?" will be the theme of the annual symposium hosted by the Baylor University Center for Ministry Effectiveness and Educational Leadership from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, April 4, in Paul W. Powell Chapel of George W. Truett Theological Seminary on the Baylor campus.

The keynote speaker will be William H. Willimon, bishop of the North Alabama United Methodist Conference and former chaplain of Duke University. He will present the opening address, "The Strange Ways in Which Christians Change the World."

The panel of respondents includes: Dr. Diana Garland, dean of the Baylor School of Social Work; George Mason, senior pastor of Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas; and Chris Seay, senior pastor of Ecclesia Church in Houston.

Questions to be addressed include: "Christians change the world 'in the name of Jesus.' What does that mean?"; "What about the world does Jesus want to change?"; and
"How does our worship of Jesus change the world?"

The symposium's theme was inspired by James Davison Hunter's book, "To Change the World: The Irony, Tragedy and Possibility of Christianity in the Late Modern World."

Refreshments will be served before the symposium, and lunch will be served afterward.
