Baylor Department of Communication Studies Will Present Communication Week 2011

Baylor University's department of communication studies will host Communication Week from Monday, March 21, to Thursday, March 24, in Castellaw Communications Center on the Baylor campus. The events are free and open to the public.
Communication Week is an annual tradition celebrating the richness of the communication discipline by bringing nationally visible scholars in the areas of rhetoric and communication and film and digital media to Baylor, said Dr. David W. Schlueter, chair of the Baylor department of communication studies.
Dr. Abraham Khan, assistant professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla., will present the first lecture, "The Disciplinary History of Jackie Robinson," at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 21, in Castellaw 101. Khan is a rhetorical critic who investigates the discourses that manage and complicate racial politics and cultural narratives of justice.
Dr. Johny Garner, assistant professor at Texas Christian University, will present his lecture, "Beyond the Bottom Line: Communication and Dissent Processes in Churches and Other Nonprofit Organizations," at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, in Castellaw 101. Garner's research focuses on what dissenters say, when they say it and the degree to which they perceive their dissent to be effective.
A Dr Pepper float hour will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, in the Castellaw Lounge for students interested in the master's program in communication studies at Baylor. Dr. Mark Morman, Baylor graduate program director of communication studies, will host.
Dr. David C. Mahan, president and co-founder of the Rivendell Institute at Yale University, will present the final lecture, "Radical from the Roots: Shaping the Contemporary Imagination," at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, in Castellaw 101. Mahan's work focuses on the relationship between works of the imagination, contemporary culture and the tasks of Christian theology.
