The Skin of Our Teeth

BREAKING NEWS...While the sun rose faithfully this morning at 6:32 a.m., reports arrived that the end of the world will occur in twenty-four hours. This event has been preceded by inexplicably frigid weather which has caused a giant iceberg to float freely, wreaking havoc as it travels. And through all of this impending doom, the family of George Antrobus, inventor of the wheel, attempts to keep familial harmony in the face of certain destruction. THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH is a Pulitzer Prize-winning foray into the theatrical unknown, written by Thornton Wilder and directed by Shelby Hibbs. For more information click here.

St. Olaf Choir

The St. Olaf Choir is the premier choral ensemble of St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, is comprised of 75 mixed voices and is the pioneer a cappella choir in the United States. The choir's mission is to provide music of the highest quality that lifts people's hearts and spirits, incorporating a diversity of voices and cultural traditions into the chorus of the Christian faith. Tickets are available through the St. Olaf Choir website. They also may be purchased at the door on the evening of the concert.
Annual Black History Month Lecture

This year's lecture is entitled "The Freedom Riders" presented by guest lecturer Ray Arsenault, Ph.D. Dr. Arsenault is the John Hope Franklin Professor of Southern History and Co-Director of the Florida Studies Program at USF, St. Petersburg. Lyceum Series Lecture

Dr. Joy Haslam Calico is Associate Professor of Musicology at Vanderbilt University. She has focused her research primarily on opera, with a particular interest in radical staging practices, and on cultural politics during the Cold War. The topic of her lecture is "Arnold Schoenberg's A Survivor from Warsaw Behind the Iron Curtain (1958-1968)". This event is free of charge and open to the public. Association of Black Students presents 24th Annual Black Heritage Banquet

The keynote speaker for this event is Santana Dotson. He is a member of the Baylor Hall of Fame; NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (Tampa Bay Buccaneers); and former Defensive Lineman with the Super bowl 31st Champions, Green Bay Packers. Physics Circus
Feb.3, 5:30 - 7:30 p. m. Mayborn Museum
The CASPER Physics Circus was created during the 2000-2001 school year and was funded by the GEAR UP Waco (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) grant. This year 's Circus participants will use math and science skills to solve a missing persons mystery. Aligned with the National Science Education Standards as well as the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, the event promises to educate and entertain students and adults. Professional actors present scientific information in a light-hearted, entertaining fashion that makes learning science fun.
Science and Faith: Breaking Down the Wall

One of the great challenges deep in American culture today is reconciling tenets of the Christian faith with those of modern science. The goal of this seminar is to educate people of the church (as well as those outside the church) regarding the engagement of faith and science. The intent is to help clergy and laity alike understand how, in their pursuit of truth as Christian people, their faith will be strengthened and their Christian effectiveness increased when they take both biblical theology and science seriously. The speakers for the seminar are Gerald Cleaver, Associate Professor of Physics, Barry Harvey, Professor of Theology, and Phyllis Tippit, Lecturer in Geology and Interdisciplinary Science, all from Baylor. Sacred Harp Sing
Feb. 5, 10:00 a. m. - 3:00 p. m., Truett Theological Seminary
Sacred Harp singing is so named after the shape-note tunebook Sacred Harp, first published by B. F. White and E. J. King in 1844. The Baylor sing uses the 1991 edition of the book. Much of the music in this book consists of folk hymns that were passed down orally for many years before being written down. Baylor hosts the tenth-annual sing in the seminary's Piper Great Hall. The event will be preceded by a brief singing school at 9:30 a.m., and lunch will be provided for the participants. The Sacred Harp Sing is free of charge and open to the public. Birdsall-Dreiss Lecture

Dr. Jeffrey J. McDonnell has been selected as the 2011 Birdsall-Dreiss Distinguished Lecturer, offered annually by the GSA Hydrogeology Division; McDonnell is the 33rd GSA Birdsall-Dreiss Lecturer and the first from the field of watershed science. The 2011 Roy B. Albaugh Lecture

The Texas Independent Film Network Spring 2011 Film Series

Baylor University Film & Digital Media presents "Texas Legends Before They Were Legends (1965-1992)." Texas has a rich legacy of filmmaking, but even the masters had to start somewhere. This collection of rare short films represents six legendary Texas filmmakers' first forays behind the camera.
