Houston Mayor, Harris County Judge Proclaim Dec. 29, 2010 "Baylor Day" in Houston

HOUSTON - In anticipation of Baylor's appearance in the Texas Bowl at Reliant Stadium in Houston - the Bears' first bowl game since 1994 - Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett issued official proclamations today, declaring Dec. 29, 2010, as "Baylor Day" in Houston and "Baylor Bears 2010 Texas Bowl Day" in Harris County.

Lauding Baylor as a "national research university occupying a position of prominence in American higher education," the Mayor and Judge wrote that the Baylor football team's appearance in the Texas Bowl at Reliant Stadium "brings honor to Houston, Harris County and the state of Texas." The Mayor and Judge also praised Baylor for its ties to the world-renowned health care community in Houston that dates back to the founding of the Texas Medical Center in the 1940s.

Houston-area students comprise more than 2,000 of the university's current total enrollment of 14,900 students, which also was noted in the proclamations.

The Mayor's and Judge's proclamations were presented to Dary Stone, JD '77, and chair of the Baylor Board of Regents, by former Texas Gov. Mark White, BBA '62, JD '65, and Judge Jennifer Elrod, BA '88, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and Cary Gray, BBA '79, BA '80, JD '83, attorney with Looper Reed & McGraw and Baylor's 2010 Alumnus of the Year, at the Baylor Sports Network Tailgate in the Reliant Center prior to the Texas Bowl game.
