Joyce Jones will perform a Memorial Day organ concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 31, in Roxy Grove Hall on the campus of Baylor University.
In keeping with the theme, her program will include patriotic music such as "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," Charles Ives's Variations on America, and "The Stars and Stripes Forever," as well as "In Paradisium" from Gabriel Fauré's Requiem and other favorites by Johann Sebastian Bach, Joseph Clokey, Robert Elmore, and original settings of favorite hymns
This program rounds out an eventful spring for Jones, who is the Joyce Oliver Bowden Professor of Music and Organist-in-Residence at Baylor. In April, she was honored by the American Guild of Organists with a concert and gala reception in Fort Worth. The next week, she was named the Cornelia Marschall Smith Professor of the Year at Baylor. April also marked the release of her newest CD, a live recording of her acclaimed New York City concert, played for the 100th anniversary of the American Guild of Organists. Monday's program will include several selections from that recording.
The concert is the opening event of the Summer Organ Institute for Adults. Other concerts include Aaron García on Tuesday, June 1, in Paul Powell Chapel at Truett Theological Seminary and Stephen Morris on Wednesday, June 2, in Jones Concert Hall. Like Monday's event, both of those concerts also begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free of charge and open to the public.
