Baylor Professor Will Speak at National Briefing about Israel and Jewish Identity

Reconciliation between the Jewish community and Palestinians will be the focus of a briefing by Dr. Marc Ellis, director of the Center for Jewish Studies at Baylor University, at The Palestine Center in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, May 27.
In his topic "The Ongoing Nakba and the Jewish Conscience," Ellis will examine the expansion of Israel and what it means for Jewish identity to affirm that Palestinians were cleansed from parts of Palestine. He also will discuss how admitting and exploring the responsibility within the Jewish community would further reconciliation.
The Palestine Center is an independent think-tank committed to communicating reliable and objective information about the Palestinian political experience to American policy makers, journalists, students and the general public. Established in 1991, it is the educational program of the Jerusalem Fund for Education and Community Development.
Ellis is a professor of history in Baylor's College of Arts and Sciences as well as a professor of Jewish studies. He has written more than 20 books, among them Judaism Does Not Equal Israel and Unholy Alliance: Religion and Atrocity in Our Time. He has been inducted into the Collegium of Scholars at the Martin Luther King International Chapel at Morehouse College in Atlanta.
The free briefing is open to the public, with lunch served at 12:30 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer period from 1 to 2 p.m. Registration is required by noon Wednesday, May 26.
