Baylor Religion Professor Will Speak at Willson-Addis Endowed Lecture

Dr. Philip Jenkins, Distinguished Senior Fellow at Baylor University's Institute for Studies of Religion and the Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of Humanities at Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pa., will be featured at the Willson-Addis Endowed Lecture in Practical Christianity at Baylor's George W. Truett Theological Seminary, 1300 S. University Parks Drive.
Jenkins will present "Reading the Bible in the Global South" at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, in the Paul W. Powell Chapel at Truett Seminary. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Jenkins received his bachelor's and master's degrees and his doctorate from the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, UK.
Jenkins has published 24 books, including Jesus Wars: How Four Patriarchs, Three Queens, And Two Emperors Decided What Christians Would Believe For The Next 1,500 Years; The Lost History of Christianity: The Thousand-Year Golden Age of the Church in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia--and How It Died; and God's Continent: Christianity, Islam and Europe's Religious Crisis.
The purpose of this lecture is to recognize practical Christianity from any branch of the Judeo-Christian tradition. In 1964, the Willson-Addis Endowed Lectures were created by a gift from Mr. and Mrs. James McCorry Willson of Floydada, Texas. The Willsons were active Methodist laypersons, involved in many areas of denominational, educational and social service. The lectures were named in honor of the couple's daughter, Ora Eugenia Willson Addis.
