Bearathon, hosted by Baylor University Student Foundation, will be held Saturday (March 20) rain or shine, said Student Foundation Director Lizzy Davis.

A cold front is expected to pass through Central Texas Friday night and into Saturday morning, aiding in the development of showers and thunderstorms. Some of these storms could become briefly strong, but forecasters are not expecting a Severe Weather event to occur. The warmest temperatures will be in the morning, as very cold air will filter in behind the cold front. Paired with the cold temperatures, winds behind the front could be strong, in the 25-35 mph range.

The race will be on, so participants should dress appropriately. Dubbed the "Toughest Half-Marathon in Texas," the 13.1-mile Bearathon course takes runners from a start line on the Baylor University campus through Waco's Cameron Park and then back to campus. Start time is 8 a.m.

"If lightning is present, we will delay the start time to 9 a.m.," Davis said. "If lightning is still present at 9 a.m., we will then make the decision to cancel. At this time, we expect the race to be held."

Participants can register on race day. Complete information about Bearathon is available on the Student Foundation web site.
