Baylor University's ONE Campaign hosts Nuru

Nuru International has teamed up with the ONE Campaign-Baylor to address issues of extreme poverty and its effects on terrorism at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, in Bennett Auditorium.

By partnering, the two groups hope to educate students, faculty and members of the Waco community who are interested in addressing humanitarian and security issues that face the world today.

Nuru is an organization that seeks to educate communities on becoming self-sufficient and independent. ONE-Baylor and Nuru hope this event will generate discussion among the Baylor and Waco communities and come to address both issues of global poverty and terrorism as they are often interconnected.

"What's great about these two organizations is that instead of throwing money at the issues in developing countries, they believe it is important to help equip these countries with the tools they need to make long-lasting changes," said Jenalee Schwab, president of ONE Campaign-Baylor

The ONE Campaign believes in pushing legislation and holding government officials accountable for promises made on world poverty, Schwab said.

ONE-Baylor was chartered as an official student organization three years ago and last year ended No. 3 in the nation of more than 2,500 schools in the fight against extreme poverty.

"We are excited to see the generosity so prevalent at Baylor as we raise awareness on our campus about extreme poverty and global disease in the future," said Justin Kralemann, member and founder of ONE-Campaign Baylor
