Musicologist to Speak at Lyceum Series

Dr. R. Larry Todd, musicologist and Arts and Sciences Professor of Music at Duke University, will present "Fanny Hensel: The Other Mendelssohn" at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, in Meadows Recital Hall at the Glennis McCrary Music Building on the Baylor University campus.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is part of The Lyceum Series, hosted by Baylor's School of Music. The series was founded in 1976 and has been funded by the Meadows Foundation of Dallas since 1980.
The lecture topic is from Todd's new book Fanny Hensel: The Other Mendelssohn. Todd will discuss Fanny Hensel's life as a musician in the 1800s, who composed more than 400 compositions that were discovered in the 20th century.
Todd's research interests on 19th century music led him to write Mendelssohn: A Life in Music, which was named best biography of 2003 by the Association of American Publishers. He serves as the general editor of the Routledge Studies in Musical Genres and of the Master Musician Series for Oxford University Press.
Todd is a former fellow of the John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute at Duke and recipient of fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation and National Humanities Center.
