'America's Pastor,' Best-Selling Author Max Lucado to Speak at Baylor

New York Times bestselling author, Max Lucado, also known as "America's Pastor," will present the 2009 Ferguson-Clark Author Lecture Nov. 12 at Baylor University. In his latest book, Fearless: Imagine Your Life Without Fear, Lucado explains that trust in God can overcome any fear, including fears that surround the political and economic instability of the world today.
"The relationship between trust and fear is pretty simple," Lucado said. "Trust is fear that chooses to believe. It's not the absence of fear, but it's a facing of fear with faith that results in deeper trust."
Lucado's will speak about living life without fear at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at Waco Hall on the Baylor campus. The seventh annual Ferguson-Clark Author Series is a fundraiser for the Baylor University Libraries, with all proceeds benefiting the renovations of a 24-hour study area near Java City on the Garden Level of Moody Library.
For more than 25 years, Lucado has been sharing stories about the grace of God, which he describes as a "unique aspect of Christianity that we're not saved by what we do, but by what Christ has done for us."
Fearless, which was released in September, is among one of Lucado's more than 65 million books in print, including On the Anvil, God Came Near, When God Whispers Your Name, He Chose the Nails, The Cure for the Common Life and 3:16- The Numbers of Hope. He has been on several national bestseller lists, including Publishers Weekly, Christian Booksellers Association and USA Today.
Lucado is the only author to have won three Evangelical Christian Publishers Association Christian Book of the Year awards for Just Like Jesus in 1999, In the Grip of Grace in 1997 and When God Whispers Your Name in 1995. In 2005, Reader's Digest magazine dubbed him "America's Best Preacher," and in 2004, Christianity Today magazine called him "America's Pastor."
Lucado shares the love of Christ through a wide array of formats, including books for adults, gift books, children's titles, Bibles, commentaries, calendars and devotionals. He is also the creator of "Max Lucado's Hermie and Friends" animated DVD series and inspired a brand line of greeting cards and gift books for Hallmark.

Currently, Lucado is the Minister of Writing and Preaching at the Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, where he has served since 1988.

In 2001, Baylor alumnus Collen A. Clark established the Ferguson-Clark Author Lecture Series endowment in honor of his mother, Carla Sue Ferguson Garrett, a Baylor alumna and a member of the libraries' Board of Advisors.
Patron tickets are available for $50 and include passes to a special reception immediately following the event, where guests can visit with the author and have books signed. Books may be purchased in advance and will be available at the Baylor Bookstore. General admission tickets to the lecture are available for $15. All tickets may be purchased online by clicking here. Baylor students may purchase tickets at the ticket office in the Bill Daniel Student Center (SUB) for $5 with student ID.
