Cambridge Historian Presents Lecture at Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center

The art department at Baylor University will present Dr. Paul Joannides, professor of the history of art at the University of Cambridge, Cambridge, England, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Joannides will present "Titian's Transpositions: Drama and Metaphor in Compositional Transfer" in Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, Room 149, as part of the M.D. Anderson Lecture series.

Joannides' interests include painting, sculpture, drawing and architecture of the Italian Renaissance. He has written extensively on artists Masaccio, Michelangelo, Raphael and Titian. He has a strong interest in the relations between literature and the visual arts in that period.

His books include The Drawings of Raphael; Masaccio and Masolino; Titian to 1518: The Assumption of Genius; and Michel-Ange, Ecole, Copistes, Inventaire des Dessins Italiens, Musee du Louvre Réunion des Musées Nationaux.

He has exhibited 68 drawings for the Royal Collection, which belongs to the British Royal Family art collection, and 57 drawings exhibited at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

This lecture series is made possible by a grant from the M.D. Anderson Foundation in honor of Milton Wilson, a member of the Friends of Fine Arts at Baylor.
