Truett Seminary Welcomes Accomplished Pastor for Fall Preaching Convocation

WACO, Texas -Dr. Haddon Robinson, The Harold John Ockenga Distinguished Professor of Preaching at the Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Boston, will be the featured speaker at the annual Fall Preaching Convocation Sept. 21-22 at Baylor University's George W. Truett Theological Seminary.
Robinson will lead a workshop "What's The Big Idea" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21 at the Paul W. Powell Chapel at Truett. Robinson said the big idea behind his workshop will be, "the heart and core of what preaching is all about."
At 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, in the Powell Chapel Robinson will preach at Truett's community worship, and will discuss the misunderstood parable of the sheep and the goats in Matthew 25:31-46. The worship is free and open to the public.
Following the worship, a luncheon with Robinson will feature questions and answers. The Dialogue will take place at noon Tuesday, Sept 22 in the Paul and Katy Piper Great Hall at Truett. Registration fees for the convocation include all events and meals.
Robinson will conclude the convocation with a lecture "Preaching All Listeners Like" at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22 in the Powell Chapel. Robinson will be discussing how to present a sermon in an interesting way, "so that people are not bored by it," Robinson said.
The convocation and workshop is presented by the Kyle Lake Center for Effective Preaching at Truett. The center, which opened in 2008, is dedicated to expanding the preaching skills of pastors.
Robinson received his doctorate from the University of Illinois and earned his master's degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
In 1996, Baylor recognized Robinson as one of the "12 Most Effective Preachers in the English-speaking World," a survey conducted by Baylor and he was named among Christianity Today International's "Top 25 Most Influential Preachers from 1956-2006."Robinson was given the 2008 Living Legend Award at the Living Legend Luncheon sponsored by E. K. Bailey Ministries, Inc.
In 1991, Robinson joined Gordon-Conwell and served as Interim President from July 2007 to 2008. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and serves on the board of EvanTell, Marketplace Network and Evangelistic Association of New England.
Robinson has written several books, including Making a Difference in Preaching, Biblical Preaching: The Development and Delivery of Expository Messages and It's All How You Tell It: Preaching First-Person Expository Messages. He also has served as the editor for the Christian Medical Society Journal, Theological Annual and Preaching and Christianity Today.
