Jim Doak, chief of police for the Baylor University Department of Public Safety, today announced that his department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are working together on the investigation of last Saturday's reported assault on a Muslim student at Baylor.

Formally known as a Domestic Police Cooperation investigation, the FBI is partnering with Baylor DPS to lend its resources to the process of gathering and analyzing leads and other information related to the case.

"We have had an FBI representative on campus with us throughout the day today and will continue to work with the agency as this process goes forward," Doak said.

At approximately 5 p.m. Sunday, a Baylor University student reported to the university's Department of Public Safety that she had been assaulted between 8:45 and 9 p.m. the previous evening near the Draper Academic Building. The student described the perpetrator as a white male in his mid-30s and said she did not believe the perpetrator to be another Baylor student. The student reported that the person who assaulted her used disrespectful ethnic and religious statements during the assault.

Individuals having any information about this incident are encouraged to contact the Baylor Department of Public Safety at (254) 710-2222.
