Baylor Commemorates Martin Luther King Jr. With Day of Service

To honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Baylor University students and organizations have the opportunity to take part in a day of service on Monday, Jan. 16. Students will prepare lunches for fellow volunteers with Baylor's Campus Kitchen Project, or partner with the Heart of Texas Urban Gardening Coalition to volunteer at one of 15 different gardening sites across the Waco community.

Volunteers will prepare bagged lunches for the nearly 500 MLK Day volunteers from Saturday, Jan. 4, through Monday, Jan. 16. Shifts of volunteers will meet in the kitchen on the first floor of the Family and Consumer Science building on the Baylor campus.

Garden volunteers will meet from noon to 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at sites to help build raised beds and composters, and plant potatoes, carrots, onions, greens and flowers. Tools and bagged lunches will be provided. To reserve a place at a garden, register online.

• Rally, Candlelight March and Worship Service, Sunday, Jan. 15.

• Zeta Phi Beta Youth Peace March, Indian Spring Park, 9 a.m.-noon, Monday, Jan. 16.

• Fred Batts Luncheon, Bledsoe-Miller Recreation Center, noon, Monday, Jan. 16.
