Baylor Theatre's second production of the season, "The Ruby Sunrise," will raise its curtain on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
Written by playwright Rinne Groff, "The Ruby Sunrise" tells the story of poor, self-educated Ruby, who created the first working photocathode tube for television in her aunt's Indiana barn circa 1927. The play is inspired by the story of Philo T. Farnsworth, the farm boy who was one of the first to invent an electric television transmitter.
With senior Kelly Nickell of Aledo, Texas, in the role of "Ruby," and under the direction of graduate student David Reed from Tonganoxie, Kan., "The Ruby Sunrise" is described by theatre officials as a "dramatic tale of ambition, dreams and hope in a new age of communication."
Performances will be in the Mabee Theatre of the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave. on Baylor University campus.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. from Tuesday, Nov. 15 through Saturday, Nov. 19, with matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Nov. 20.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, and are $12 for Baylor students and faculty.
