"Thoroughly Modern Millie!" -- the tale of Millie Dillmount as she heads for the Big Apple in 1922 with big dreams and a big heart -- will open Baylor Theatre's 2011-2012 season.
Performances will be in the Jones Theatre of the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave. on Baylor University campus, Sept. 28-Oct. 2 and Oct. 5-9.
The musical follows Millie in her search for a new life far from her small home town in Kansas. In New York, she finds intrigue and jazz, with women entering the workforce and changing all the rules.
In 2002, the musical won a total of 23 Tony Award and Drama Desk nominations, taking home the Best Musical Award in both.
The musical will be directed by Stan Denman, Ph.D., chair of the department of theatre arts at Baylor. It is based on the popular 1967 movie starring Julie Andrews. The stage version includes a full score of new songs by arranger/composer Jeanine Tesori and features classic Broadway dance numbers choreographed by Baylor Theatre's Meredith Sutton, a senior lecturer of theatre arts.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays; and 2 p.m. Sundays.
Tickets are $15; $12 for Baylor students and faculty. For tickets or more information, call 254-710-1865.
