WACO, Texas, (Sept. 14, 2011) - The Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC) project was selected as one of eight worldwide finalists competing for CoreNet Global's 2011 H. Bruce Russell Global Innovators Awards (GIA), according to Truell Hyde, Ph.D., Baylor University Vice Provost for Research.
The BRIC is the first, and cornerstone, facility of a 21-acre discovery complex that will evolve into the Central Texas Technology and Research Park as tenants populate the park over the next few decades. It will provide researchers, organizations and private companies -- particularly hi-tech startup businesses -- with 300,000 square feet of physical space for labs, research centers, industry collaborative space, workforce training and symposia meeting venues for up to 300 attendees. Additionally, science, technology, engineering and math STEM) space and an Innovative Business Accelerator are planned.
CoreNet is an international organization for real estate developers, equity investors and economic development professionals. The H. Bruce Russell Global Innovator's Award is CoreNet Global's most prestigious award. Nominees are selected by a panel of judges from submissions to the Global Awards Program which demonstrate true innovation.
This summer, representatives from Baylor's Office of the Vice Provost for Research, the Greater Waco Chamber, and Perkins+Will Architects went to Atlanta to deliver the BRIC presentation. Final results will be announced at the annual CoreNet Members Summit meeting on Nov. 6 in Atlanta.
