Professional Development Grants

Policies:

1. A grant is to be used for job related training or experience that enhances the current job or one for which the staff member is being considered.

2. The experience should provide more effective performance or increased satisfaction for the job.

3. Funds are for supplemental training and development, not required job training.

4. Departments are encouraged to supplement the grant for longer or more intensive experiences.

5. The experience sought should not duplicate what is available on campus or through regular Baylor University channels.

6. Employees are restricted to a maximum of three grants totaling no more than $500 during a two year period. The date of the experience will be considered, not the date of the grant application.

7. Individuals are limited to one experience per application.

8. POD professional development grants are not meant to be used for regular conference attendance. Grant money may sometimes be used for first-time attendance of a conference in order to give the participant a chance to see if a particular conference is going to fit his/her professional development goals. But, once a person has attended a conference and decided it does fit, it is the responsibility of the department to include the travel money for the conference in the departmental budget.

9. On occasions when several sessions of the same conference are held, then staff members should try to attend one at the same location, thereby saving automobile travel expense.

10. Part-time employees are eligible for grants. Temporary employees are not eligible.

11. POD Professional Development Grants are intended for use by staff. Please contact the Provost's office for information about grant opportunities for faculty.
