Two Postdoctoral Research Associate Positions in
Experimental Particle Physics

Baylor University currently has two Postdoctoral Research Associate positions available in Experimental Particle Physics. Advertisements for the two positions are given below.

Applications for one position will automatically be considered for both; there is no need to submit two separate applications. Likewise, it is only necessary to submit one copy of the statement of research interests and recommendation letters.

Position #1

The Experimental High Energy Physics group at Baylor University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position to participate in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The successful candidate will join our program led by Professors Dittmann and Hatakeyama. The position can start as early as October 2009.

The Baylor University experimental high energy physics group has a strong involvement in the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) experiment, and the group is currently in the process of joining the CMS experiment at the LHC. In CDF, the group is heavily involved in the Higgs Boson search, and the group has also played a major role in the commissioning, operation, and monitoring of the Level 1 tracking trigger (XFT). In CMS, we plan to work on the data quality monitoring, the hadron calorimeter operation, calibration, upgrade, and jet and missing ET calibration. The group's physics interest ranges from searches for the Higgs boson & Supersymmetry, new phenomena searches, to Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) physics.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. and research experience in experimental high energy physics. The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role in early physics analyses at CMS. In addition, the candidate is also expected to make contributions to both the hardware and software activities of the group. In parallel, the candidate may choose to work on the Higgs boson search at CDF as well. Extended residence at CERN and/or frequent travel is expected.

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

To Apply:

Interested applicants should complete the Baylor University on-line application, along with the submission of a vitae and cover letter. Candidates should provide a brief statement of research interests, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to:

Professor Kenichi Hatakeyama
Baylor University
One Bear Place #97316
Waco, TX 76798-7316
hep_postdoc@baylor.edu (E-mail preferred)

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Position #2

The Experimental High Energy Physics group at Baylor University has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Higgs search on the CDF Experiment at Fermilab.

Members of the Baylor group are heavily involved in the search for the Higgs Boson at CDF. The group has also played a major role in the commissioning and operation of the Level 1 tracking trigger (XFT), and continues to monitor the performance of the system. The group is currently engaged in an effort to join the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree and have research experience in experimental high energy physics. The successful candidate is expected to assume a leadership role in the CDF Higgs search as well as future involvement in the CMS experiment.

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
