Outreach Programs
The Baylor Physics department engages in a variety of outreach programs to
enhance the educations of high school, middle school, and college
students and teachers. These outreach programs provide valuable conduits to allow
Baylor faculty to share their expertise and love of physics with the community off campus,
both locally and internationally.
- Open Text is an ongoing project directed by Prof. Walter Wilcox
of the Baylor Physics Department to develop complete texts
for disadvantaged physics students throughout the world. The
concept is similar to "open software" for computer programs,
except the material is copyrighted to ensure appropriate use. There
are 4 texts presently being developed: graduate electrodynamics,
undergraduate classical mechanics, undergraduate quantum mechanics,
and a very partial undergraduate electrodynamics text. These may
be downloaded in various formats.
- The CASPER
Physics Circus brings together
the best of performance, science demonstration, and hands-on interactive displays
to provide middle school and high school students an interactive, multimedia
science exploration experience that they're not likely to forget.
- The
CASPER Summers Program offers outstanding high school students and undergraduates an opportunity for active
research participation with CASPER faculty through internships or research fellowships.
- The CASPER summer
REU Program offers outstanding undergraduates an opportunity for active
research participation with Baylor University faculty.
- The CASPER summer
RET Program offers elementary
school, middle school, and high school teachers an opportunity to participate in
research with Baylor faculty in CASPER, allowing them to develop new curricula while
interacting in a working research environment.
