Philosophy is the activity of thinking clearly about issues of fundamental importance. Studying philosophy at Baylor makes sense for students pursuing a variety of vocations, including law and medicine. Philosophy makes sense for life.
Adam Pelser, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the United States Air Force Academy and a 2011 PhD from Baylor’s philosophy department, has won the Res Philosophica annual essay prize, 2015, for his paper, “Respect for Human Dignity as an Emotion and Virtue.”

Blake McAllister's “Re-evaluating Reid’s Response to Skepticism” has been accepted for publication at the Journal of Scottish Philosophy. It received the George Elder Davie Prize from the Center for the Study of Scottish Philosophy.
In this article, McAllister describes how the importance of rationality in Reid’s response to skepticism is typically underappreciated by contemporary commentators. He shows how Reid defends the rationality of believing in first principles and why we cannot properly understand Reid’s response to skepticism without this defense.
