Print Instructions for Linux


Linux instructions:

Follow these instructions to configure linux to print on the PawPrints network using AirBear or in your Residence Hall.

CUPS 1.4:

  1. Enter http://localhost:631 into a web browser
  2. Click the Administration tab
  3. Click Add Printer (If prompted for a password, enter a LOCAL administrator's username and password - most likely not your BearID)
  4. Select "LPD/LPR Host or Printer" from the "Other Network Printers" list
  5. For the Connection url, enter: "lpd://pawprints.baylor.edu/queuename" where queuename is the name of printer from the list found here.
  6. Enter the Name, Description and Location for this printer. These are all arbitrary fields and can be named or customized however you like. It is almost recommended not to share this printer.
  7. Select the Make and Model as found on the printer list here.
  8. Most printers do not need extra trays defined, but they do need the duplex unit defined. If you plan to print two-sided to a capable printer (list of two-sided printers found here), mark the duplex unit as installed. Leave all other options as default.
  9. You may now start printing to this PawPrints printer. Please remember to release your print job.

CUPS 1.3:

  1. Enter http://localhost:631 into a web browser

  5. Select "LPD/LPR Host or Printer" from the Device drop-down list.
  6. For the Device URI, enter: "lpd://pawprints.baylor.edu/queuename" where queuename is the name of printer from the list found here.
  7. Select the Make and Model as found on the printer list here. (If you are prompted for a password, enter a LOCAL administrator's username and password - most likely not your BearID)
  8. Setup will tell you that the printer has been installed, and will continue to the printer options page.
  9. If you plan to print two-sided to a capable printer (list of two-sided printers found here), mark the duplex unit as installed. Leave all other options as default.
  10. You may now start printing to this PawPrints printer. Please remember to release your print job.
