PawPrints NewsFall 2009 Graduate Balances FixedSeptember 18, 2009 - 12:00 PM Thanks to many graduate students inquiring about why they had not yet received their additional balance, we discovered that a problem occurred last week when those extra pages were given out. The problem has been corrected, and all grad students should have their additional pages now. Thanks everyone who reported the problem! Fall 2009 Additional pages CreditedSeptember 7, 2009 - 5:30 PM Additional pages for graduate students and HSB students were credited today. If you didn't receive your pages but should have, shoot an email to pawprints@baylor.edu. Hope everyone's having a great semester! Temporary PawPrints errorAugust 25, 2009 - 3:00-5:00pm It's that time of year again.. Everyone's printing out their syllabi and class notes for the semester and the PawPrints system is getting hit HARD. Well, this time it brought our server to its knees for a few hours, and consequently, most print jobs were going straight through to the printer without needing to be released. If you logged in to release a job and nothing showed up, it probably already printed. You can request a refund for these jobs if you didn't pick them up from our print history app. Sorry for the inconvenience! Fall 2009 Undergraduate Allowances CreditedAugust 17, 2009 - 10:00am Welcome freshman, and welcome back everyone else! PawPrints allowances for Fall 2009 students were credited today (400 pages). If you're a grad student or are in a class that allots you additional pages, you should expect those to be deposited sometime in the next few weeks. If you don't think you got your allowance for this semester, please contact us at pawprints@baylor.edu. Summer 2009 Graduate Allowances CreditedJune 11, 2009 - 10:00am Additional PawPrints allowances for Summer 2009 graduate students were credited today. If you have any questions, or if you think you did not receive your additional balance, please contact pawprints@baylor.edu. Temporary PawPrints OutageJune 4, 2009 - 9:15 AM to 11:30 AM A temporary problem with the PawPrints server caused all print jobs to be immediately released to the printers. Printing should not have been interrupting, but unwanted print jobs and/or repeated print attempts were most likely an undesired result. Service was restored to normal around 11:30 AM. Please email pawprints@baylor.edu with any questions.

If you have any questions, please contact pawprints@baylor.edu.. Spring 2009 Graduate Allowances CreditedFebruary 5, 2009 - 2:00pm Additional PawPrints allowances for Spring 2009 graduate students were credited today. We would like to apologize for the unusually long wait for this additional credit. If you have any questions, or you think you did not receive your additional balance, please contact pawprints@baylor.edu. Spring 2009 Allowances CreditedJanuary 9, 2009 - 2:00pm Welcome back everyone! PawPrints allowances for Spring 2009 were credited today. Everyone received 400 pages to begin the term. For graduate students, an additional 200 pages will be credited about 2 weeks into the term. If you are in any classes that provide more allowance, those will also be credited about 2 weeks in. If you have any questions, please contact pawprints@baylor.edu. Graduate Students Balance AdjustedSeptember 8 , 2008 - 11:00am We have now adjusted the Fall 2008 balances for all graduate students to reflect a total of 600 pages. This meant adding 200 pages to each balance. If you find that you are a graduate student and did not receive your balance adjustment, please contact pawprints@baylor.edu. Temporary PawPrints Server OutageAugust 26, 2008 - 9:30am The server that runs PawPrints became unresponsive at around 9:30 AM and all PawPrints printing was interrupted. The server was fully restored at around 10:40 AM. Since the web release system was also included in the interruption, most jobs submitted to print were not deducted from a user's balance. We are investigating the cause of this interruption in order to prevent the server from becoming unresponsive again. We apologize for the inconvenience this caused many users. Fall 2008 Allowances CreditedAugust 19, 2008 - 11:00am PawPrints allowances for Spring 2008 were credited today. Everyone received 400 pages to begin the term. For graduate student, an additional 200 pages will be credited about 2 weeks into the Fall term. Summer 2008 AllowancesMay 21, 2008 - 9:00am Per the feature story on the front page of this website PawPrints allowances, Summer 2008 allowances have now been credited. PawPrints OutageMay 14, 2008 - 1:52pm A software update from our vendor caused the PawPrints server to become unstable beginning at about 9:45am today. For the first time in our history we implemented our emergency printing structure, which diverted all printing to four accessible locations across campus. Pages printed during the emergency were not counted and will not be debited from your PawPrints allowance. Our vendor provided a software patch that effectively resolved issues faced by us and other institutions who applied the software update. As of this writing the PawPrints system is back to its normal operations. 1 week, 2 updatesMay 14, 2008 Usually our software vendor releases one update per quarter. However, this has been a banner week. After just updating the software a few days ago we received an announcement of another update. Since this update addresses some issues from the last update we plan to apply it immediately. PawPrints services should only be affected for a few seconds as a result of this update. PawPrints Server IssuesMay 9, 2008 The PawPrints server experienced issues with its web release service beginning on Thursday, May 8, 2008 and ending on Friday, May 9. Our vendor was able to discover a corruption in our system that we immediately recitified. All systems are once again stable and normal. PawPrints Server RestartApril 23, 2008 The PawPrints server will be restarted TODAY at 2:10pm to perform a necessary memory upgrade. The PawPrints network will be down for just a few minutes, and any print job that was in process prior to the outage will need to be re-sent. We will notify everyone immediately if we encounter any issues during this upgrade process. Office 2007 IssueMarch 6, 2008 We have had many reports of aberrant printing on HP4250 printers (the majority of our fleet) with Office 2007 documents. We are investigating the reason for these printing issues, but have had some (emphasis on some) success in a few cases saving the document in Compatibility Mode (Word 97-2004 format) and then attempting printing. We believe that the issues we are experiencing arise from some incompatibility between the Office 2007 printing function and our HP PCL 5e drivers. We will work toward a resolution as quickly as possible and will notify everyone when this issue is fixed. Graduate Student Allowances CreditedFebruary 11, 2008 We credited the additional 200 pages granted to graduate students earlier today. We apologize for the delay. If anyone did not receive their graduate student allowance, please contact us at pawprints@baylor.edu Spring 2008 Allowances CreditedDecember 26, 2007 PawPrints allowances for Spring 2008 were set today. Everyone received 400 pages to begin the term. Graduate student PawPrints balances will increase 200 pages about 2 weeks into the Spring term. PawPrints Server UpgradeDecember 20, 2007 For some time our old server (A Dell 6520 server) has needed an upgrade. We decided that the break was a wonderful time to transition from our old hardware to a VMware server environment. So, today we migrated PawPrints from our old server to its new environment. As of 2:30pm the PawPrints network is fully functional. We have not migrated all of the additional services from the old server to the new server yet, so function like Print History and Your Current PawPrints Balance will be unavailable. We will update you as we restore these auxiliary PawPrints services. We hope that this new server gives us even greater speed and stability. We apologize for any inconvenience the transition may have caused throughout the day. PawPrints Network OutageDecember 3, 2007 We were notified about about 10:00pm that the PawPrints network was down. We investigated the issue, determined the cause, and restarted the PawPrints server. Printing services were restored by 10:15pm. We later discovered that the PawPrints system had been offline since about 4:45pm. We rely on support personnel across campus to communicate with us when the PawPrints system experiences issues. In this case, support personnel believed they communicated using the proper channels to report this outage; however, those channels are not operational on Sunday nights. We communicated with our support staff and future issues will be reported to the PawPrints administrator directly so that printing services will be restored quickly. We apologize for the extended outage and will do our best to avoid any further outages during the remainder of finals. PawPrints Services RestartedNovember 11, 2007 At about 8:21 p.m. we were notified that the PawPrints network stalled, bringing printing to a halt across campus. We restarted the PawPrints server and printing was restored by 8:30 p.m. and remained stable throughout the night. We apologize for the outage and hope to provide stable printing services as you prepare your final papers for the term and await final examinations. PawPrints Services RestartedOctober 1, 2007 At about 10:15 p.m. it appears that the PawPrints server stopped processing web release requests and print jobs. By 11:00 p.m. we were notified, investigated the issue, and restored printing services. As always, we apologize for the printing outage across campus and for the inconveniences caused by this outage. Change in D-Code Printer NamesSeptember 16, 2007 To standardize the names of PawPrints stations, we changed the names of all D-Code printers. Previously, D-Code printers were named by adding the characters DP_ to the name of existing PawPrints stations. Now, the reverse will be the case: To connect to a D-Code printer, look for the PawPrints station named [Standard Printer Name]_DP. Correction to Lariat QuoteSeptember 11, 2007 This morning's Lariat carried a story about our "Things are Getting Greener" initiative. In the article, Jeremy Langley, Information Technology Specialist for the Electronic Library, was misquoted. Mr. Langley explained to the reporter that based on his analysis, the money spent to purchase the duplexers would be recouped in about one and a half years. He went on to explain that the duplexing units could be used in other printer models, so when our current printers are replaced, the duplexing units can be moved to these new printers. The ability to use these duplexing units on a variety of printer models makes them cost effective. Graduate Student Balances AdjustedAugust 30, 2007 This afternoon we added an additional 200 PawPrints pages to the Fall 2007 allowances of each current graduate student. If for some reason you did not receive your PawPrints allowance for the Fall 2007 term, please notify us at pawprints@baylor.edu Print Locator IssueAugust 24, 2007 We have heard from many in the residence halls who cannot load the residence hall printer onto their computers. The experience we hear is that some people can print, while others cannot, even though they are doing all the right things. Please know that we are aware of this situation and are currently looking at our network configuration to determine the cause(s). When we determine the source of the problem, we will do what is necessary to provide you a connection to the residence hall printer either using Print Locator or a command line interface. We appreciate your patience and your feedback as we work toward a resolution. SUB Printing RestoredAugust 21, 2007 We restored one of the two printer in the SUB. We continue to repair the second printer and hope to have them both back online by this afternoon. SUB Printers DownAugust 21, 2007 The PawPrints stations in the SUB experienced issues throughout the day yesterday under the load of the new semester. When we assessed the printers on Monday afternoon, we determined that one printer required maintenance by our technical staff. Then, this morning, we found the second printer also required professional attention. We contacted our ITS Shop representatives and hope that they will be able to assess and repair these printers some time Tuesday and restore printing in the SUB, one of our busiest printing areas. In the meantime, you can find printing services in the Writing Center and throughout Moody and Jones Libraries. PawPrints Services RestartedAugust 20, 2007 Today at 2:36pm we restarted the PawPrints server. The server became unresponsive to our management requests, which is normally a sign that the server is about the crash. To avoid this eventuality and restore efficiency to the PawPrints network, we chose to restart the server. Printing services will be restored in several minutes. HP LaserJet 4100 Driver UpdateAugust 18, 2007 Reports from Vista users indicated that HP LaserJet 4100 PawPrints stations would not load properly. I updated the printer drivers on all HP LaserJet 4100 printers on the PawPrints network and it appears that the drivers now load properly. We will test other driver sets to ensure that they are all Vista-capable so that all Vista users will be able to print on as many PawPrints stations as possible. Fall 2007 AllowancesAugust 13, 2007 Welcome to the Fall 2007 Term! PawPrints began its official fall kickoff by setting your PawPrints allowances. As on Monday, August 13, 2007, every current student has been granted an allowance of 400 pages. In two weeks we will credit all currently enrolled graduate students with an additional 200 pages. If you did not receive your Prints Allowance please let us know. We wish you all the best for this semester's learning! PawPrints Welcomes CL&LAugust 8, 2007 Over the years, we received many requests to print to residence hall printers from residence hall rooms. Beginning this fall on-campus residents will be able to print from their personal computers to PawPrints stations in the lobby of each on-campus residential hall. PawPrints will work much like it works when you print from the wireless network: locate a printer, submit your print job, and release the job to the printer from the PawPrints website. We hope that this convenience saves you time and energy as you print during this semester. |
