A Thread of Unwavering Commitment

A Green and Gold thread is being woven through the McCormack family--thanks to Sandy (BBA '82) and Gretchen (BS '82) of Katy. Their journey together began on the Baylor campus where they clearly remember where they met and even their first date, a Kappa Christmas party. But these memories are only the first of many Green and Gold stitches to come.

Today, 27 years after graduation, the couple remains deeply committed to their alma mater, serving current and future Baylor students and raising a few of their own: Wes (BBA '08); Brandal, a Baylor junior; Clark, a Baylor freshman; and Arden, their Baylor-Bear-to-be.

"It seems like there is always some sort of Baylor event being planned. Whether it be Baylor Parents League meetings, First Call to Prayer gatherings or the annual Send-off parties, they are both extremely involved," Arden reflected. "My parents' deep involvement in our lives and in Baylor Parents League has sparked an intense love for Baylor and all it offers all four of us."

With an unwavering commitment to their roles as Baylor Delegates, Chapter Presidents of the West Houston Baylor Parents League and Gretchen's service through the Baylor University Women's Association of Houston, Sandy and Gretchen demonstrate the mission of Baylor University to pursue excellence with a commitment to Christ.

"Baylor University and the Baylor Parents League are truly honored to have this opportunity to recognize Sandy and Gretchen McCormack as our 2009 Parents of the Year," Judy Maggard, director of parents programs at Baylor, said. "Along with a deep and abiding love of Baylor University, Sandy and Gretchen exemplify an unshakeable commitment to Christ and service."

In addition to honoring the 2009 Baylor University Parents of the Year, Parents Weekend also offered several events, ranging from the Parent-Faculty Coffee to History and Campus Tours, to connect parents to the everyday life of their student. Parents caught a glimpse of opportunities afforded to their students and enjoyed the chance to jump in to Baylor traditions.

Mark your calendar now for next year's Baylor Parents Weekend, scheduled for Sept. 17-18, 2010.
