Parents League from A to Z
A Baylor education goes far beyond A-B-C and 1-2-3. But in our educational setting, using the ABCs to illustrate the benefits of Parents League activity seems only natural. Select a letter below to read the helpful tip associated with it.
Ask questions. Whether your student is having roommate problems, considering rush or deciding where to live next year, your Parents League friends probably have experienced the same conundrums and can share their wisdom.
Boxing parties, in which each parent brings enough of one item to share, are a great way to ensure a variety of goodies in your student’s care packages. A winning packing list: cookies (homemade are always a hit--make sure they’re wrapped individually), candy, microwave popcorn, batteries and highlighters.
Dine and enjoy fellowship at a Parents Night Out gathering. With Baylor as common ground, you won’t run out of conversation topics!
Engage in the Baylor experience. Even if you can’t visit very often, you can attend hometown Parents League gatherings, visit the website, and of course, witness the transformation in your student.
First Call to Prayer, the monthly opportunity to pray with fellow Baylor parents for your students, blankets the campus in prayer and brings peace of mind to participants.
Gifts to the Parents Fund support students via the Parents League Endowed Scholarship Fund, the Student Emergency Fund and the Library or Student Life Excellence Funds. For some, your investment in the life of your student may prevent you from making a gift to the Fund. For others, a minimal gift is affordable and, coupled with gifts from other parents, can produce significant results.
Help(line) is only a toll-free call away. Call the Parents Helpline at 1-888-287-5557, weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (CST) and let us know how we can help you. You also can e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ideas for Parents League gatherings always are welcome. If you have questions about putting your ideas into action, let us know at the Parents League office and we can offer feedback and tips. Some recent creative parties have included tailgates at Baylor games, finals good-luck card parties and a bowling party for students returning home from the fall semester.
Jump in and get involved with the Parents League--parents agree you’ll get more out of it than what you put in. If there isn’t a chapter near you, contact the Parents League office at 1-888-287-5557 to find out how you can start one.
Keep up with Baylor goings-on through the Just for Parents calendar you received at the beginning of the academic year. From football games to financial settlement deadlines, the information is invaluable to navigating the academic year successfully.
Leading your local chapter is a great way to connect, both with the Baylor campus and with Baylor parents in your area. The Parents League office will help you every step of the way, from coordinating gatherings to communicating with the parents in your area. And you’ll get to attend the Parents League Leadership Breakfast at Parents Weekend!
Mental health is a concern for many parents, and for Baylor. Learn about Baylor’s efforts to support your students and how you can help.
Perspectives, the Parents League’s periodic publication, seeks to help you stay connected and keep you in touch with the Baylor experience. Hope you’re enjoying it! Check out our online archives. Be sure to update your contact information and e-mail address through our Alumni & Friends directory to ensure you receive our next electronic issue.
Questions about Baylor are a given. With the Parents League, you have access to endless outlets for answers: the Parents Helpline, Perspectives, the Just for Parents calendar, the Parents League office and of course, fellow parents. So ask away!
Recruit future Bears by becoming a Baylor Delegate. Many Parents League chapters participate in local College Fairs and enjoy finding their students’ future classmates.
Send-off parties kick off Parents League events each year. We always are looking for hosts and love to have returning students and parents attend and help the incoming class feel welcome.
Travel and carpooling for students can be 10 times easier to arrange with the Parents League. You have an automatic network of students coming/going to the same place, so all that has to be coordinated is leaving times. (This works for parents attending Baylor events too!)
Website browsing regularly helps you keep up with upcoming Parents League activities and new information. Bookmark www.baylor.edu/parentsleague and check-in regularly.
X-plore books that will help you make the transition of sending your student to college.
Zest and zeal for Baylor characterize every Parents League gathering. We all are excited about our children’s Baylor experiences and love to share that enthusiasm with others. Sic 'em Bears!
