Welcome!

A hearty welcome to our new students who have joined us for the first time this semester and a sincere welcome back to our returning students. After the winter break, getting back into the swing of the spring semester can be exhilarating and challenging, and we hope this issue helps you guide your student toward success. We are excited to begin a new semester and look forward to providing many opportunities for parent and family members to experience Baylor. Last November, Terri Morris, the assistant director of Baylor Parents League, and I attended the Association of Higher Education Parent/Family Program Professionals (AHEPPP) 2012 Conference. More than 125 individuals representing colleges and universities across the nation were in attendance. The conference focused on promoting student success through parent and family involvement. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn what other universities are doing in parent programming, and we were proud to share Baylor’s philosophy and efforts to involve families in the life of the University.

Starting on the Right Foot

Pursuing a college education can be challenging. As students navigate tests, papers and projects, they sometimes can feel as if they are falling behind. Thankfully, January brings a new semester and a fresh start for your student. Baylor’s Success Center Tutoring Program offers free tutoring to all Baylor students in many challenging subjects so students can improve their grades and gain confidence in their field of study.

Planning Ahead

Though the year has just begun, it is an important time for students to begin considering how they will spend their summer months. Summer is a prime opportunity for college students to be proactive about their academics and get ahead on degree requirements or retake classes to improve their GPAs. In the midst of creating resolutions for the new year, encourage your student to consider how summer months can be a worthwhile investment in their education.
