Full Audio Migration Begins!Oct. 28, 2013
The first full-length audio files of BUIOH-transcribed interviews have been added and are now accessible on our ContentDM searchable database! These mp3 files are playable currently in Internet Explorer, Safari, and Firefox web browsers with Google Chrome functionality to be added soon.
For the inaugural interviews the BUIOH chose two individuals with important ties to the Waco/McLennan County area: Roger Conger, former Waco mayor and prominent local historian, and Maggie McLennan Gibbons, daughter of Dan McLennan, who was a freed slave of the McLennan family for whom the county is named. Founding director of the BUIOH Dr. Thomas L. Charlton conducted the six interviews in Mr. Conger's series from 1975-1977, while Mr. Conger himself conducted the interview with Ms. Gibbons before the BUIOH was even established in 1968 for the Waco Public Library System. These interviews were digitized from their original analog reels by the Ray I. Riley Digitization Center at Baylor University.
In the coming months audio from additional select interview series will be added to the database while the BUIOH moves to automate the mp3 creation and upload process for all future new interviews accessioned into the collection.
