Research conducted by E. Spencer Williams, Ph.D., assistant research professor at Baylor, and his co-researcher showed that those living near coal tar-sealed pavement were more highly exposed to the hazardous chemicals polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, or PAHs.

New research has found that the symptoms experienced by many ailing Gulf War veterans, known collectively as Gulf War Illness, are fundamentally biological in nature. Lea Steele, Ph.D., Baylor University epidemiologist and former member of the Research Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veterans' Illnesses, is quoted in the article.
