Ruth Vernon Buchholz
2007-2008

Ruth was a charter member and the first treasurer of the Baylor University Women's Council of Dallas in 1987. She was the one who set our sail for having as one of our primary goals that of awarding scholarships to local Baylor students. Ruth has remained a faithful member throughout these twenty years.

Ruth is a 1949 graduate of Baylor University majoring in English and Education. She taught school in Fort Worth and worked for the U. S. Department of State Foreign Service in Germany.

Ruth is the picture of what a generous heart looks like. She has not only taken the love she has shared over the years as a loving mother to her children Chrystine and Robert, but also multiplied it many times over to children through Buckner International. She and her husband, Don, share their love with five grandchildren.

Her servant heart provides leadership to the advisory board of the Louise Herrington School of Nursing and Baylor Health Care System. As a lifetime member of the Baylor Alumni Association, Ruth is also committed to the Endowed Scholarship Society, Bear Foundation, Old Main Society, and Hankamer School of Business endowed fund.

Her civic endeavors spread far and wide throughout the greater Dallas Metroplex. Recently she has been part of the historic restoration of Old Red, the first courthouse in Dallas. Her many varied areas of lifelong community volunteerism exemplify her servant spirit, as well as years of loving service to First Baptist of Garland and Park Cities Baptist Church.

Ruth serves as a role model for all of us. It is our honor to present this humble yet highly successful committee Baylor woman, Ruth Buchholz, as the 2007 Woman of Distinction.
