Undergraduate Audition Requirements
B.M. in Piano Performance or Piano Pedagogy
Three contrasting solos prepared by memory are required:
1. a selection from the Baroque Era, such as a prelude and fugue by J. S. Bach or a sonata by Scarlatti
Etude literature plus all major/minor scales and arpeggios, four octaves in 16ths, should be studied in preparation for majoring in piano.
B.M. or B.M.E. in Organ
Students should be prepared to perform the following:
1. a prelude and fugue by J. S. Bach
All major / minor scales and arpeggios, four octaves in 16ths, are required in preparation for majoring in organ. Keyboard students who have not previously studied organ and who wish to begin organ lessons at Baylor should plan to audition in piano as an indication of the necessary background for organ study. See the requirements above for piano students.
B.M.E. in Music Education
Piano students must prepare at least three contrasting pieces by memory similar to those suggested for piano majors in the previous section. In addition, keyboard skills such as sight reading, accompanying, harmonization, and transposition are suggested as preparation for these programs. Major/minor scales and arpeggios required.

Graduate Audition Requirements
An audition program, at least 30 minutes in duration, of memorized solo repertoire from three style periods is required for admission in Performance. Pedagogy and Church Music applicants should prepare a similar program of at least 20 minutes. The audition for Collaborative Piano applicants will consist of at least 10 minutes of memorized solo repertoire and a collaborative repertoire component. Auditions in person are recommended but not required.
Admission to the Advanced Performers Certificate program requires a live audition consisting of 60 minutes of solo repertoire representing the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries and including at least two major works and two virtuoso etudes from the literature. The option of a videotaped performance may be approved when distance to the audition would be a hardship. When the audition is by tape, the student must present a live audition before a designated faculty committee during the first semester of residence in order to be fully accepted into the program.
For international students, admission to the Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy and Performance requires the submission of a recorded demonstration of teaching in English and a writing sample. The writing sample may be a minimum of 3 pages and could be a paper written for a previous course or a statement of one's teaching philosophy. The teaching DVD should be a minimum of 15 minutes with a student at or below the late intermediate level, and the lesson should be given entirely in English. These are considered as part of the application to the degree program as well as the application for a graduate assistantship in piano pedagogy.
Keyboard scholarships are based upon outstanding accomplishment in performance, potential for artistic development, and commitment to a career in music. Scholarships are awarded to piano and organ majors in the Bachelor of Music degree programs. Qualifications are determined by either a campus or taped audition, and awards are announced by letter following the final audition day in March.
