Dr. James WilliamsProfessor of Piano JAMES WILLIAMS, Professor of Piano at Baylor University, has performed as soloist, duo pianist, and collaborative pianist throughout Texas and the southeast United States. He is also active as an adjudicator for piano solo and concerto contests and festivals, including events for Music Teachers National Association, University Interscholastic League, and local music teachers associations. Dr. Williams serves as Director of the Keyboard Studies Division at Baylor, having previously coordinated the college program in secondary piano. New programs of study have been developed and implemented under his leadership as Keyboard Division Director, including the Master of Music degree with a major in Collaborative Piano and the Advanced Performers Certificate in Piano and in Organ. Dr. Williams's teaching has been in the areas of piano and piano pedagogy. A native of Georgia, Dr. Williams completed the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in piano performance at the University of Cincinnati. As winner of the school's concerto competition, he performed as soloist with the University of Cincinnati Philharmonic Orchestra. His piano study was with Raymond Dudley, John Bigg, and Loren Withers. Prior to his faculty appointment at Baylor University in 1973, Dr. Williams completed a year of post-graduate study with Ilonka Deckers in Milan, Italy. |
