Angela Ripley joins the music faculty for a one-year appointment as Lecturer in Music Theory. She holds the Ph.D. in music theory from The Ohio State University as well as M.M. and B.M. degrees from Baylor University. She has served as Lecturer and Graduate Teaching Associate at Ohio State, where she was named as Outstanding Graduate Associate in Theory and Composition in 2015, and as Adjunct Instructor of Theory at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Her research interests include music theory pedagogy, form, the history of theory, and church music. She specializes in pedagogical games that increase student engagement by presenting challenging course material in innovative, enjoyable ways. Results of one such pedagogical game appear in her dissertation, which is entitled “Surviving Set Theory: A Pedagogical Game and Cooperative Learning Approach to Undergraduate Post-Tonal Music Theory." A related article appears in Music Theory Pedagogy Online. Angela has presented papers at the Texas Society for Music Theory’s 2017 Conference, the College Music Society’s 2016 and 2017 South Central Regional Conferences, and the 2015 Western University Graduate Symposium on Music.
