Texas Select Trombone Quartet

Texas Select Trombone Quartet is comprised of some of the foremost trombone players residing in the Lone Star State. Members of TSTQ regularly perform with the finest orchestras in Texas, including the Dallas Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony, Lubbock Symphony, Abilene Philharmonic, and Waco Symphony.

Texas Select members are award winning soloists, chamber musicians, and prominent teachers. James T. Decker, Associate Professor of Trombone at Texas Tech University, served as principal trombonist of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra for seventeen years. Ilan Morgenstern is the bass trombonist of the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra and teaches trombone at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music and at the Texas Lutheran University School of Music. Brent Phillips, Associate Professor of Trombone at Baylor University, performs as principal trombone of the Waco Symphony Orchestra and the Abilene Philharmonic. Baylor graduate John Romero is the newly appointed principal trombonist of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.

TSTQ’s mission is to bring excellence to the trombone quartet repertoire and introduce new and exciting arrangements and commissions. TSTQ will be performing in multiple venues across the state in 2016 and 2017 and will be the featured trombone quartet at the Big XII Trombone Conference in Lubbock, Texas, in January of 2017.
