ERIC LAI Ph.D., is Professor of Music Theory at Baylor University. Prior to joining the Baylor music faculty, he taught at Indiana University and Hong Kong Baptist University, and was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. A former editor of Indiana Theory Review and currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Bruckner Society of America, Dr. Lai holds degrees from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Indiana University. His research areas include nineteenth- and twentieth-century music, cross-cultural issues, history of music theory, and Chinese music.

Dr. Lai has presented papers at major international and national meetings of music theory, musicology, and ethnomusicology, and his writings have appeared in Perspectives of New Music, Music Theory Spectrum, MLA NOTES, Asian Music, Association for Chinese Music Research Reports, CHIME, Newsletter of the Institute for Studies in American Music, and Mitteilungen der Paul Sacher Stiftung. His recent publications include "Toward a Theory of Coherence: Compositional Use of the Turn in Bruckner's Symphonies" (The Bruckner Journal, 2012), The Music of Chou Wen-chung (Ashgate Publishing, 2009), and "Pipa Artists and Their Music in Late Ming China" (Ming Studies 58, 2008).
