Students Together Encouraging Peer Success (S.T.E.P.S.)

Purpose

The purpose of S.T.E.P.S. is to positively influence the transition of freshmen and transfer students into Baylor life and to assist in creating an environment of success for those students. These goals will be accomplished by the creation of a lasting, supportive mentor relationship between the student and an established, successful upperclassman.

Mission

This program will focus on creating and developing mentoring relationships with students of color. The students will collaboratively strategize to overcome challenges to academic and social integration in their first critical year. The mission of S.T.E.P.S. is dedicated to helping students:
  • Foster student involvement
  • Encourage the prioritization of the college experience
  • Improve self –esteem and self efficacy
  • Enhance institutional commitment

Program Goals

The S.T.E.P.S. program is dedicated to helping students identify areas of social interest on the Baylor campus. Goals of the S.T.E.P.S. program:
  • Increase retention for students of color
  • Develop positive, reinforcing relationships between students
  • Equip students with the necessary skills and resources to be successful and engaged throughout their college journey
  • Promote active participation for first year students
