2) Dr. Kay Toombs is Emeritus Associate Professor of Philosophy, Baylor University. In her work she combines her philosophical training in phenomenology with her firsthand experience of neurological disease (M.S.) in order to reflect on issues relating to the experience of illness and disability, the phenomenology of the body, the care of the chronically ill, the challenges of incurable illness, end-of-life care, and the relationship between health care professionals and patients. She is author of the book, The Meaning of Illness, editor of The Handbook of Phenomenology and Medicine, and co-editor of Disability: The Social, Political and Ethical Debate and Chronic Illness: From Experience to Policy.
