Church Doctrine Subject of Feb. 13 Conference

The Baylor University Department of Religion, in conjunction with the George W. Truett Seminary, will sponsor a Continuing Education for Church and Denomination Workers Conference from 9-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the First Baptist Church of Waco.
The subject of the conference is the "Baptist Doctrine Series -- The Doctrine of the Church." Leading the conference will be Dr. Rosalie Beck, associate professor of religion at Baylor, and Dr. A.J. Conyers III, professor of theology at Truett Seminary. The purpose of the conference is to assist pastors and lay leaders in teaching doctrine to their churches.
Since joining the Baylor faculty in 1984, Beck has received numerous awards, including Student Congress' Outstanding Faculty Member, the Distinguished Non-Tenured Professor award, and most recently the Carr P. Collins Outstanding Professor award.
Beck has published numerous articles, and her first book, "A Community of Scholars: The History of the National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion," will be published this year.
Conyers came to Truett in 1994 after serving as chair of the Department of Religion at Charleston Southern University. He is founder is the Associates for Religious Studies at Central Missouri State University where he served as professor of Bible from 1979-87. Conyers is the author of seven books including "The Eclipse of Heaven" and "A Basic Christian Theology," which where published last year.
