A Cappella Choir, Symphony to Perform Feb. 10

The Baylor University A Cappella Choir and the Baylor Symphony Orchestra will both appear on the same program at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in Jones Concert Hall.
The A Cappella Choir is conducted by Donald Bailey, Baylor's Mary Gibbs Jones Professor of Music and director of choral activities. The choral portion of the concert will feature music by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Johannes Brahms, and Dominick Argento, as well as "Exsultate Justi" from the film "Emperor of the Sun" by John Williams, "Arma Lucis" by Jackson Berkey, and two of the comedic "Liebeslieder Polkas" by Peter Schickele's mythical composer, P. D. Q. Bach.
The choir will also present the world premiere of "The Sands of Dee" by Robert H. Young, emeritus professor of choral music.
Antonín Dvorák's "Carnival Overture" will open the orchestral half of the concert, which will conclude with a performance of "Roman Festivals" by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi. The Baylor Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Stephen M. Heyde, Baylor's Mary Franks Thompson Professor of Orchestral Studies and director of orchestral activities.

(Note: The A Cappella Choir will repeat its part of the concert on Tuesday, Feb. 13, in Midway High School's Performing Arts Center. The Midway High School performance will begin at 7:30 p.m., and is also free of charge.)
