Deloach to Lead Faculty Recital Jan. 9

Dr. Doris DeLoach, professor of oboe and theory at Baylor University, will present a faculty recital at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, in Roxy Grove Hall. In addition to DeLoach, the recital will also feature the talents of four other members of the Baylor music faculty: violinist Stephen Heyde, violist Kathryn Steely, cellist Gary Hardie and pianist Brian Marks.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Oboe Quartet in F Major, K. 370 will open the program. This work-scored for oboe, violin, viola, and cello-was composed in 1781 while Mozart was in Munich awaiting the premiere of his opera Idomeneo.
Also on the recital will be Benjamin Britten's early "Phantasy for Oboe and Strings," Op. 2, written in 1932 when the composer was just 19 years old.
The concluding works will be the "Two Rhapsodies" for oboe, viola, and piano by French composer Charles Loeffler. These pieces, titled "L'étang" ("The Pond") and "La cornemuse" ("The Bagpipes"), are based on poems by Maurice Rollinat.
DeLoach, a native of Chattanooga, Tenn., has been on the faculty of Baylor since 1972. She holds a bachelor's degree from Florida State University, a master's degree from George Peabody College and a doctorate from Florida State University.
