The combined choirs of Baylor University-A Cappella Choir, Concert Choir, Women's Chorus, and Men's Glee Club-will present their annual Christmas concerts on Friday, Dec. 1, and Saturday, Dec. 2, in Jones Concert Hall. Both concerts will begin at 8 p.m.
Baylor's A Cappella Choir is conducted by Donald Bailey, the Mary Gibbs Jones Professor of Music and director of choral activities. The conductor of the Concert Choir and Men's Glee Club is Wesley Gilliland, assistant professor of choral music and director of ensembles. Earlene Rentz, assistant professor of music education, conducts the Women's Chorus.
In addition to the combined choirs, this year's Christmas concerts will also feature the talents of the Baylor Faculty Brass Quintet-trumpeters Barry Hopper and Vern Sielert, hornist Peg Robinson, trombonist David Jackson, and tubist Michael Fischer.
Among the composers represented will be William Byrd ("The Earl of Oxford's March"), Felix Mendelssohn ("There Shall a Star Come Out of Jacob" and "Hark! the Herald Angels Sing"), and George Frideric Handel ("Joy to the World"). Also presented will be Kurt Kaiser's arrangement of "I Saw Three Ships."
The audience will be invited to take part in the singing of three familiar carols-"Good Christian Men Rejoice," "Deck the Hall," and "Angels We Have Heard on High."
