Holiday Season Arrives With Christmas on Fifth Street

Baylor University's annual holiday celebration - Christmas on Fifth Street - will take place beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, with numerous activities to kick off the Christmas season for the Baylor and local communities.

Presented by the Baylor Activities Council, department of student activities, Kappa Omega Tau Fraternity, Baylor Religious Hour Choir and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, activities will be held in Fountain Mall, Burleson Quadrangle, Traditions Plaza and the Bill Daniel Student Center.
Christmas on Fifth Street features musical performances, carriage rides, a petting zoo, a live nativity scene and opportunities for pictures with Santa in Burleson Quadrangle and Fountain Mall. In addition, Kappa Omega Tau will host its 45th Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in Burleson Quadrangle.
Proceeds of the KOT Christmas Tree Lighting will benefit the Mocha Club Foundation, a nonprofit organization that builds schools and job-training centers in South Africa and the Kibera slums of Kenya.
Delta Sigma Theta will host a Christmas Marketplace, which features crafts and handmade items, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the Bill Daniel Student Center Den.
The Baylor Religious Hour Choir will host "Cocoa, Cookies and Carols" at 6:30 p.m. in Barfield Drawing Room on the second floor of the student center. BRH will perform at 6:30 p.m., followed by recording artist and former American Idol finalist Mandisa, at 7 p.m.
Other performers include The Kappa Pickers (7 p.m., Burleson Quadrangle), Scott & Clare (7:30 p.m., Burleson Quadrangle) and the Columbus Avenue Baptist Church Handbells (6:45, 7:30 and 8:15 p.m., Vara Daniel Plaza), followed by Phil Wickham at 8:15 p.m. and Matt Wertz at 9:30 p.m. at Burleson Quadrangle.
