Bruce Berg to Present Violin Recital Sept. 28

Dr. Bruce Berg, associate professor of violin at Baylor University, will present a faculty recital at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, in Roxy Grove Hall. He will be accompanied by Jane Abbott-Kirk, associate professor of piano.
Berg joined the Baylor University School of Music faculty in August of 1994, following 10 years of service on the string faculty of Duke University. He has also taught at the University of North Carolina, the State University of New York (Binghamton), and Colgate University.
He has served as concertmaster and concerto soloist with Concert Royal, the Bach Ensemble, the Brandenburg Collegium, the Mozarteum Players, Ars Musica and the Ensemble for Early Music. He has also performed with Aston Magna, the Smithsonian Chamber Players, the English Baroque Soloists, the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, and Banchetto Musicale. Among his chamber music credentials are the Madison String Quartet, the Ciompi String Quartet and the New York Chamber Soloists.
Abbott-Kirk has been a member of the Baylor music faculty since August of 1973, and, in addition to her teaching responsibilities, she leads an active concert career as a keyboard soloist. Before coming to Baylor, she taught piano at the University of Kansas.
Thursday night's program will feature two works for violin and piano by Franz Schubert: his Sonata in A major, D. 574, and his single-movement Fantasie in C major, D. 934. Also to be played are the "Caprice Variations for Solo Violin," a work written in 1970 by American composer George Rochberg.
