Heavy Rains Cause Extensive Elevator Damage In Moody Library

Flooding from heavy rains on June 9 and 10 caused extensive water damage to the electrical circuits of the elevator system at Baylor University's Moody Library, rendering them inoperable.
"It is indeed regrettable and unfortunate that the elevators will be unavailable for use by library patrons or staff for the next 10-12 weeks, possibly until end of August," said Bill Hair, associate dean of the Central Libraries.
The elevators must be rebuilt to make them usable and safe. Replacement equipment and electrical wiring are required, and some items must be fabricated, Hair explained.
"We apologize for the inconvenience and hardship this will cause, while at the same time reaffirming our commitment to outstanding service."
To this end, the Moody Library staff will do everything possible to provide access to materials on the third floor and garden level, Hair said. Library patrons who require assistance in retrieving materials from these floors may make their request at the main circulation desk on the first floor of Moody. The second floor of Moody can be reached by using the Jones Library elevator; in addition, all stairwells are open and available for patrons to use.
